The tongue is a very small part of our body and it is often overlooked and taken for granted.  At sometime in our life, and maybe many times in our life, we realize and are reminded just how powerful the tongue is.  Whether we are unleashing our tongue on someone else, or maybe we are on the receiving end.  The bible tells us that our words are so powerful that they can bless or curse, encourage or discourage, hurt or heal, tear down or build up.  These facts written so many thousands of years ago, could not be more true today.  In God's country we carry a rifle or a bow, and our ammunition is a bullet or an arrow with a razor sharp broadhead.  In everyday life the tongue can be a weapon and the words we speak are the ammunition that can be sharper and cut deeper than any broadhead or jagged edge of a bullet fragment.  James 3: 8-9

Only with the help of the Holy Spirit, you and I can be saved and delivered from the destructive power of our very own words.  Think back to a particular time in your life, when you lashed out at someone.  Afterwords, you were so sorry and stricken with such guilt when you witnessed the damage of your words and how you wished you could take them back.  We have all done it, and I know that many of us, with myself being at the top of the list can remember it very well.  We need to be patient and mindful of the power of our words and sometimes take a step back to look at the entire picture, instead of the very moment that you are wrapped up in with intense emotion.  Now think back to a time when you offered a word of praise to someone who looked up to you, or words of encouragement to a stranger in need.  Chances are that person still remembers you and whether they realize it or not, the power of the Holy Spirit formed and empowered those words from your tongue.  Your faith enabled you to help someone.  Do you remember how good it felt?  Proverbs 18: 21

As we read Mark 11: 13-14 and 20 we see an example of how words can bring forth death and destruction.

On the contrary, an example of how words can bring life forth can be found in John 11: 43-44 .

Lastly, a couple of Proverbs to think about are:
Proverbs 12: 25
Proverbs 16: 24
